Singapore is home to lots of really bold and innovative architecture, including the magnificent Marina Bay Sands hotel. It was way out of my budget, but my son and I took the tourist lift to the top to the Skypark observation deck 57 floors up. The hotel guests have access to the rest of the top deck which has an infinity pool. The deck is somewhat curved (it looks like an ocean liner on top of the 3 columns which make up the hotel) and you can just see the infinity pool. How the other half live 🙂 You get a great view of most of the city and the bay, depending on the weather of course! The cost is about SGD22 but if you flew in by Singapore Airlines you get 10% off, and we luckily still had our boarding cards on us to prove it! There is the opportunity to get a souvenir photo (at a price you can negotiate) which they take with a bluescreen before you even take the lift, so it’s a perfect background! Well worth the trip, especially if you are not in town for long, as you can see the sights from the sky – Merlion, Fullerton Hotel, museums, the quays, bridges, Sentosa island, etc. And it’s cool to be able to say you’ve been on the roof of one of the world’s iconic hotels! Also very handy that there’s a nice mall underneath for food & clothes, and easy transport links.
