Ok, so lets get the areas for improvement out up front…
Entertainment was, at best, patchy. 4tunes wouldn’t get a booking in a local pub, Jessica Davey couldn’t hit high notes and the professional ballroom dancers looked as happy to be there as Barry & Yvonne in Hi-di-Hi.
The broadway show team was the weakest we have come across in 6 Tui cruises. Only 1 or 2 could hold a note and the choreography resembled a school production. The rock night epitomised the perfomances.
One or two numbers were perfectly delivered and received deserved raptuous ovations, but too many numbers were simply cringeworthy.
Elsewhere, activity around the main pool resembled an episode of Benidorm but if that is not your thing there are plently of quieter places to soak up the sun.
Destinations were ok, but Tui should not call at Thira if it really wants to make a statement on donkey cruelty and Heraklion is simply uninspiring.
There are alternatives on both Santorini & Crete that could be considered.
However, the Discovery 2 made for a relaxed home for 7 days and was a definite upgrade on the older Tui vessels.
Loved the indoor pool, which was never busy, the climing wall and mini-golf.
Films under the stars was a great feature (but where was the hot chocolate and pop-corn?) and the introduction of the snack shack was just perfect.
Accommodation (junior suite) was definitely worth the money spent, the extra space & balcony offered a perfect place to enjoy early morning vistas.
Very friendly crew, nothing was too much trouble.
Food was very good and, on occasion, excellent. The Surf & Turf Steakhouse stood out and can highly recommend.
Would we book again? Absolutely!
