The MAK Museum in Vienna has something different on display and that’s what makes it attractive. When you’re on a sightseeing holiday the glorious churches and rooms full of old masters can be rather overwhelming. So MAK museum of Applied Arts is so refreshing. It is only 10 minutes walk away from the cathedral on the Ringstrasse.
One surprising area is the Design Lab which focuses on industry, design and art showing patterns of development. I found the exhibition about furniture very interesting. Even the way in which the ceramics, glassware and tableware are displayed is a work of art in itself. The special exhibition which fascinated my companion was the photos of doors of every description (it reminded her of her late husband’s obsession with such photography)
The museum building itself dates back to 1871 so you see a magnificent atrium with beautiful ceilings, columns and windows. And of course the restaurant is beautiful too with delicious food.
The museum is one of the finest in Vienna!
