I cruised in September/October with Saga on Rex Rheni. Cruised the Moselle and loved wondering around the gorgeous little towns. The middle Rhine was more about visiting the cities. Cologne Cathedral was awesome in the literal sense of the word.
The Rex Rheni in a very old ship that has been refurbished. Lethally steep stairs but it has a lift for the less mobile. Fairly expensive for what it was. Small cabins with narrow beds – comfortable mattresses though. The less than slim were challenged!
Food was good apart from the fact that i was shocked to be told by the MaitreD that ‘nearly everything had MSG in it’. As it makes me ill I had to constantly check what I could eat. Evening meal often took two hours which is a long time to be sat on the same table very night!
Normally, I’m told, the weather is fairly good at that time of year but it rained every day with bitter winds.
