Reasons for trip

The Majestic was once the pride of Harrogate. A book in the rooms tells us of its history and all the famous people who have stayed. It was sad to see that it is no longer what it was. When we arrived we were told that we had no reservation. I showed the receptionist email evidence and she asked us to take a seat whilst she sorted it out. The next customer was served and was allocated a room. However, whilst we were still waiting he came back to say that there was someone already in the room. The receptionist then had to leave the reception to check on whether rooms were empty before she could allocate them to us and the other guest. This was a farcical situation and the receptionist was clearly very stressed. She remained polite and courteous throughout though. The room we were eventually allocated was large and well appointed. The bathroom window, however, looked out on peeling paintwork.
The hotel clearly needs some tlc and also some systems put in place to help the hardworking staff do their jobs properly. It was such a shame to see this British institution slipping away.
