This is the 5* hotel in the marina complex which is the most prestigious facility in the capital of Borneo. The city is small by British standards and this is on the very edge of it, looking out on the S. China Sea and a marine reserve. It's a beautiful setting. Only some slow service and a lack of clothes storage detract from its 5* rating. The staff are delightful and eager to please, so that's a shame. Access is good for the less mobile with lifts for upper floors though I saw no adaptations in the rooms. Not suitable for those who cannot take humid heat (equatorial rainforest region). The spa is lovely and not too expensive. Saga offer an A/I deal which is worthwhile as food and drinks are expensive. They will combine the hotel with a week's tour of the Eastern rainforest and river region where the wildlife includes orangs, colourful birds, monkeys, tiny deer, small elephants, rhinos and crocodiles…..etc.. The hourly shuttle bus into the city is excellent and can be used in the evening too for dining out. Shopping can be very cheap. Trips to all the N Borneo attractions are easily arranged. Boats cross frequently to the marine park islands from the marina. We used Down Below for snorkelling and general tours and were pleased with them. One thing to watch: when the longer runway opens will the aircraft noise become a problem? Now they are seen and heard but not too many or too much unless you are a very light sleeper. I was more often woken by the dawn chorus.
