During our recent stay with our son and his family in Calgary, we made a long-awaited (by me!) visit to this ice cream shop in nearby Cochrane. Our first try was aborted, as it was closed, probably due to the weather conditions and temperatures of -30 degrees! Who in their right mind would want ice cream when it’s that cold?? The answer was simply – me! They know I love ice cream and that THIS is the place to visit.
Not to be deterred, we returned a few days later, this time with success! It’s quite a small shop, although it does have a few places to sit, with lots of old photographs of the town and shop as it was when it was first established. I have to confess that while I really enjoyed the two different flavours I tried, they didn’t have my all-time favourite, which is hazelnut. I always look for this when I’m on holiday, often successfully in both France and Germany in particular, but on this occasion I had to settle for chocolate-hazelnut – which was still very delicious! I accompanied it with something even more tasty, called strawberry-rhubarb pie. The range of flavours is fantastic – have a look at them on their website. My wife tried one of their sorbets, which she enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the ice cream.
So in spite of the cold and snow outside, I finally got to visit, and will certainly return in the future. It bills itself as world famous, and if you look at the map on the wall (and place your pin in the place where YOU live), you can easily see that they’ve had visitors from literally all over the world.
