It always makes me dubious when my mother tells me somewhere is fantastically good. I have previously had some run-ins with a very pithy leek soup thanks to her! But as she was paying I thought I’d bite the bullet. And she found an absolute gem. The Louis Tea Rooms are on Kit Hill in Cornwall which is in between Callington and Gunnislake. It’s a wooden lodge type building with a terrace. Just across there is a cute little area with rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and some llamas (who took exception to my husband – they really hated him). But they’re all fenced in so no fear of attack. The view is amazing up there – you can literally see for miles. Although it sounds odd the sky looks enormous – if you go you will know what I mean. The tea room isn’t a fancy restaurant. It has a basic cafe style and an area selling farm foods. But the food is unbelievably good!! I thought it was strange to have a tv on the wall with a list of how many meals are left on the menu but I can see why they sell out. My main course was homemade quiche with salad and it was the best I have ever had – an enormous plate full. For dessert I had creme brulee -nearly as big as my main and delicious! I have never felt so full or seen my mother eat such a massive Eton mess. I highly recommend – for the price this place is amazing! Go on an empty stomach though!
