We chose to stay in this apartment because of the lovely pictures, location and we wanted to be in the South of Tenerife. Unfortunately, the apartment was not as represented. The first problem came when we booked through the site and upon reply the owner asked us to pay directly. I didn’t really think about the consequences of that but I realize now that had we booked through the agency we would have had some recourse. The first day we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment is a little worse for wear but the view which is absolutely spectacular made up for it.
However, upon closer inspection we found it was not quite as clean as we would have expected. Secondly, when we returned home from dinner the first night and entered the apartment we found no fewer than 50 cockroaches running around the apartment! We informed the apartment caretaker who called pest control to come in for the very next day; nonetheless, that first cockroach infested night was quite upsetting. For the whole week we found cockroaches in the cupboards on the dishes, in the food drawers, in the toilet, on the bathroom floor, in the shower and, really, even the fridge! If we had booked through an agency I would have demanded that we be moved. We started a family ritual of bursting into the apartment so we could surprise the bugs and kill as many as possible before they all scurried into hiding. In addition, the paint on the walls was scuffed and dirty, the shower was not well cleaned, the sheets had holes in them and the balcony railings rusted. Especially for the price the apartment was seriously disappointing. We would have been appeased somewhat with a reduction in the rate of our stay but the owners did not offer us any compensation except a discount should we stay again in future…which we absolutely would not. I would be very careful booking in Tenerife as the cockroaches are a real problem but a professional hotel would likely be better at managing them. Tenerife itself was spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
