Reasons for trip

The Wow! factor was invented to describe entering the magnificent London Coliseum for the first time. Excitement having already built as you stared up at the spinning dome on the top of the theatre. Making itself sparkle amongst the packed streets of West End London. I was lucky enough to be invited as a guest of Fenwick store London to the opening night of the magical ballet The Nutcracker. Long before the dedicated dancers brought the beauty of ballet to life I had fallen in love with the Coliseum itself. With 2,359 seats it is the largest theatre in London. It is also the most impressive, the luxury of past times seeps from red velvet seats, strolls across the carpets and wanders up to the balconies. The rows of curved box seating climbs the walls, made for evening dresses and opera glasses. The lighting glows golden around the theatre and you feel tiny yet important just to be inside such a place.

The Coliseum plays host to Ballet, Opera and many music concerts. Watching the dancing toy soldiers, the Sugar Plum fairy and the memorable snowflake ballerinas in the Nutcracker was truly enchanting. I had only ever watched this ballet from the slips of the Royal Opera House before and although I enjoyed it this was totally different. I was sitting in the stalls and could see the whole stage which was a novelty in itself. I could see the orchestra sway to the steps of the dancers as the hushed audience devoured the show. It was a lovely special evening and I would love to visit the Coliseum again.
