Reasons for trip

My husband and I spent two weeks in May/June on holiday in the Loire Valley, staying in the lovely medieval town of Chinon, on the river Vienne. We stayed in a small hotel called Saint Jacques just over the river from the town so 5 minutes walk from plenty of good restaurants. There is a wonderful view across the river to the town and the fortress on the hill – makes a great photograph! We visited plenty of chateaux, churches, wonderful villages and small towns, also plenty of troglodyte sites and a mushroom museum! – not many tourists around so it was a peaceful holiday. We did also visit the city of Tours – lovely cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows, very interesting art gallery, incredible half timbered medieval houses in the old part of the city, and the church of St Martin where the remains of St Martin of Tours are buried.

I would definitely recommend this part of France for a holiday.
