Reasons for trip

Whilst there are a number of these restaurants around the UK, having originated in Scotland and being the provider of fine Scottish Fish and Beef, my local branch is in Shrewsbury, which in itself is a place worth a visit with a varied history stretching back to Saxon times and was the setting for the books and TV series, Cadfael. The river Severn curves through the town and there are marvellous sites out to the Wrekin and over to the Welsh border (disputed over the years). It is however the restaurant I wish to review. A warm welcome is always guaranteed regardless as to day or time. If you are new and lucky you may even be given a sample of the oysters, which quite frankly are worth eating regardless as to whether there are any R’s in the month. The choice of menu may not be vast but you can guarantee it will be prime quality, they even cater to Vegetarians, although to go there for anything other than Scottish Fayre seems a bit pointless. So we had a taster of the oysters, two of each variety and then the starters. They have a specials board and I always find it so hard to decide so I had a specials started and a main course off of the menu. My starter was king prawn and scallop, done to perfection in a butter and lemon dressing. This was then followed by smoked haddock with chive butter mash and wilted spinach. All washed down by a bottle of crisp, dry white. My son had the lobster, so decadent! I had no room for dessert but he had the eaton mess and there was ample of it. To end it off I finished with coffee and grand marnier whilst my son had a top range brandy. All in all worth the £220 and now if I can only find the receipt we can get 25% off if we go back within 4 weeks!!
