We discovered Lloyds by chance a few years ago while on a biking trip through Wales. We have been back several times since. Lloyds is run by Tom and Roy: Tom does front of house and Roy cooks. The rooms are all delightful but quite different and each year rooms are upgraded to ensure that standards are maintain. When you book, you say what you cannot or won't eat and Roy plans the menu around you and all his other guests for the night. The attention you receive is outstanding: returnees are treated like long-lost friends and your preferences for both food and drink will be remembered. One time we took the whole (adult) family down including a vegetarian with nut and lots-of-other-things allergies and a queasy mum-to-be. All were delighted and Clare's vegetarian meal, made specially for her, was the best vegetarian meal she had ever had. The actual menu is a surprise on the night but you can relax because you know it will be simply delicious and you will like everything. Tom takes great delight in telling you what he is about to serve to you and recommends wines from their extensive and interesting wine cellar. Breakfast is likewise tailored to your requirements. Llanidloes is a pretty little town with timber-framed buildings. We like it as the walking is so good there, but it is an ideal centre for touring by any method of transport. Downside? Lloyds is so popular you have to book quite a long time in advance. They are also quite honest about the fact that their stairs are narrow and not suitable for disabled guests. We haven't been back for a while – must get down to see them again soon . . . .
