Set high on a wooded knoll above Lake Windermere, Linthwaite House is a tranquil spot to enjoy a summertime lunch.
Relax in the conservatory – or on the terrace – with views across Lake Windermere and enjoy a drink from the extensive wine list including South African wines handpicked by the new owners, as well as local artisan beer brewed at Hawkshead.
Lunch is served in a peaceful dining room overlooking gardens. The special three course lunch was beautifully presented and tasty. I chose a starter of crab and mango – an exotic pairing which delighted my tastebuds – followed by halibut on a base of curried lentils. Wow – a fabulous mixture of flavours. My companion enjoyed his duck – cooked to order – and we both found the cheeseboard irresistible. Five local cheeses with tasting notes were a divine end to a superb lunch – harmonising perfectly with damson cheese from the Lyth Valley.
Well worth seeking out this hidden gem.
