We finally set off on a sunny day to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, not too far from Skegness. The drive was interesting but the access roads were a bit narrow and bumpy. Still, when we got there we paid the over sixty rate, of £9.95 and headed into the restaurant area for a burger and chips and soft drink, which tasted good, and listened to the Spanish music blaring out. It certainly felt like we were in Spain, with our T shirts on as well! Then we headed out to see the animals, coming across the thousands of parrots and cockatiels first. Wow! They are all rescued, and have found a busy home, and though some seemed to be in crowded and spacious accomodation they all seemed very friendly and grateful for the treats, you could buy peanuts and maize. I loved them, some were trying to talk and a few said goodbye to us as we moved on.The cockatiels danced a little too, Some parrots sat on huge branches and were free to roam, others were flying around the Friskney area and came home at night to be fed.One in a huge cage got his beak stuck on the ceiling of the cage and eventually had to be helped off by staff as his legs were flailing, I heard one parrot say “God help you”, they do say some things.Later on we went into the enormous aviary where parrots come and sit on your shoulder or neck, and enjoy kisses and treats they genuinely seemed to enjoy human company and one became very attached to my husband, it was fun. I enjoyed seeing the animals too, but some were sheltering from the sun. Thankfully we got to see Nigel the elderly puma he came up to the glass to say hello and was in fine form apart from losing his eyesight in one eye. They are collecting funds for him as he may need a sensory surrounding one day in the future. Water was in his enclosure which was spacious. The meerkats were amusing, and black swans looked happy, near to the otters. Emus and reindeer and a large creature, a tapir, were snoozing in the shade. The surrounding shrubs were attractive, and the large lake had Canada geese that shared their pond food with giant carp and Coots and Moorhens. We stopped on the bench, it was so peaceful and the geese came up to us.There are thousands of tadpoles everywhere.
Next was a visit to the Bengal Gardens with the famous tigers, all snoozing in the hot sun. We went inside the viewing area indoors, and got within a foot of a gorgeous tiger trying to sleep on a ledge. He kept looking at us through the glass, and changing position, and one a few metres away was washing itself with a huge tongue. Very lovely creatures, there are eleven, and its the largest collection in the UK. Its well worth going.they all have a lot of space to roam around in and a lake to plunge into. Wish we had seen the Tiger talk at 12 O`clock, but maybe next time.I must not forget the sweet ring tailed lemurs and the kookaboora s, they were beautiful and sang a little. Other exotic birds including a special crane were interesting too.We took a different route home through some attractive villages and fields full of vegetables.
