Reasons for trip

Many of us will have been wowed by the pictures of the poppies at the Tower of London in 2014, commemorating the outbreak of the First World War. Afterwards many of the poppies were sold off, but some have been saved and are doing the rounds of Britain, before ending up in the Imperial War Museum. They are at Lincoln Castle until 8th September 2016 and I went to see them.

There are ‘only’ 5,500 of the original 80,000 poppies from the Tower of London. Even so, they are still an impressive sight as they tumble down the walls of Lincoln Castle. It is worth viewing them from the ground as well as from above on the walls. From here, you can se the framework used to build the flow of poppies.

If you missed the poppies in London like I did, this is a chance to see them. Entry to the grounds of Lincoln Castle is free, although there is a charge to walk round the walls.
