I had heard about the Lido for some time but never quite knew where it was or what it offered, then I saw it featured on Hidden Restaurants the Michel Roux Jr programme and resolved that we must visit. It was a wonderful experience. In the centre of small local streets just off Whiteladies Road in Clifton it is a wonderfully restored outdoor swimming pool, complete with spa, bar and restaurant. If you want to make a day of it you can get packages including the spa etc., but we just went for lunch. We really enjoyed the spanish food on offer and particularly the really interesting and tasty tapas in the bar on the ground floor. We didn’t book, and went midweek, getting a table in large windows overlooking the pool and enjoying watching the swimmers. We returned for a second visit a few weeks later and booked a table in the first floor restaurant for lunch, this time having the set menu (3 courses £20). Excellent value and excellent food. There is also an a la carte menu if you want to push the boat out.
Useful tips: On Tuesdays you can bring your own wine. If you want a swim its £20 unless its part of a package. If you have a Blue Badge you can park on street virtually outside the Lido – you can park in any residents parking bays, or in disabled bays at no charge in Bristol.
