This stay was as a result of an Invite to a French Wedding. Knowing how French weddings go (I married a French Lady, in France) we decided to look for accommodation locally to the salle de fetes, and we found a gem in Vascoeuil. It is a very small village approx 26km east of Rouen, easy to find and in the heart of a very pretty area with many Gardens, castles and forests that you can visit. A great base to explore from.
L’Epicerie du Pape is a beautiful rustic, shabby chic property run by a husband and wife team, 2 dogs and three cats. I have included the animals as they are a major part of this B & Bs character. There are three bedrooms, one has its own private entrance gained by wooden stairs outside the property which is where I stayed.
The whole house is filled to the brim with interesting paraphernalia including old photographs, books and oddities. The gardens are a delight too, I can imagine relaxing outside in the summer months with a glass of wine just enjoying the ambience.
Breakfast is served 0900-1000 at a long table with plenty of delicious country bread, Croissants, pain chocolat, fruit, with coffee and the Tea, excellent. 80 euros per room per night is great value. No negative comments to make, but due to its location and structure it is not suitable for mobility impaired people.
