Reasons for trip

We spent 4 nights at this wonderful lodge and felt thoroughly spoilt. From the welcome you receive as you arrive you immediately feel part of a small intimate group, and the staff all know you by name. There are, I think, only 9 thatched chalets, all with wonderful views from the lodge’s impressive ridge location. Each has a private balcony with its own plunge pool. Wonderful decadence.

The food is special too, and well presented. In the evening, after the late game drive, dinner is served with the 9 individual tables circled around a roaring log fire. For lunch you have a picnic hamper, made up to suit your requirements. My wife is a vegetarian, which can be tricky, but we had no problems here, so while I tucked into my kudu, my wife could choose e.g. an aubergine stack.

The game is impressive. For those to whom it matters, yes – we saw all of the ‘big 5’. We also saw some wonderful bird life, eagles, vultures as well as a Narina trogon. The knowledge about all aspects of wildlife displayed by Promise, our guide, was outstanding. In August, it can get pretty chilly as the sun sets, and before it rises, so the blankets provided were very welcome.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We cannot rate it highly enough and would recommend it to anybody.
