The October 2016 prize is a stay in Lech, Austria. Having taken 35 vacations in Austria, it would not be my first choice, but nevertheless, it’s worthwhile. Renting a car is essential, for Lech per se isn’t much. Day trips to Innsbruck, Bregenz, and Feldkirch are recommended, along with driving around the mountains. Save Innsbruck for the inevitable rainy day because Innsbruck offers a day’s worth of indoors sights. I especially liked the Hoffburg, the Tiroler Volkskuntstmuseum, and the Wilten Abbey Church, all indoor sights.
Two worthwhile sights just east of Innsbruck are Hal in Tirol, an impressive old town, and the pink church visible from the autobahn at Volders, a Baroque masterpiece.
