Culture / Sightseeing

We had always told ourselves that we would go back to Caylus and stay in Le Petit Coin de Charme but lockdown very much got in the way. We waited until we felt safe to travel and this September headed off. We got there rather late because of issues with the hire car but we were soon settled in. Not much had changed, apart from a visible stock of very nice pottery that the owner had clearly been working on whilst she was locked down herself. The rooms were just as quirky but just as nice and the breakfast was more extensive than before – the little warning about stairs still prevails, there are lots.

This time we used Caylus as a base and visited some of the fabulous scenery and hill top towns. Of these, St Circ Lapoppie was the most impressive, sitting on a hilltop above the River Lot. A lot of tourists and plenty of shops and restaurants. Najac was quieter with a small castle, good food and great views and Cordes sur Ciel a bit noisy at the bottom but superb at the top (take the little train up and walk down but eat before you leave the old town). We added some local sights, St Antonin market and the Aveyron gorge and had a great time (I’ll review the hire car company separately as the problems there were nothing to do with Caylus and the Chambre d’Hote).
