An uncle and I tried “La Tabella”:http://www.latabella.co.uk in Churchtown in May and the food was yummy. The restaurant is on two floors and there is a small patio out front. It was around 7:00 pm on a Tuesday evening. We did not have a reservation but the owner said we could have a table outside if we wished as he was booked up inside. I had my doubts later about there not being a table available inside as when I went in to use the facilities there were many empty tables and I had not noticed that many people leaving while we ate. In any case, my uncle was happy he could smoke outside! If it got a bit chilly, there were blankets on each seat and a large heater. The waitress also replaced the ashtray throughout the meal which was nice.
The service was prompt and attentive and the food was delicious. I had the mussels in white wine, garlic and cream sauce (£6) as a starter and my uncle had the garlic mushrooms on ciabatta (£5.50). For his main he had another starter – the charcuterie platter – a variety of meats, buffalo mozzarella, artichokes and pickles (£7.50). For my main I had the lasagna (£9). It was just the right size, fresh and served in a pool of creamed tomato sauce. There is a two course special mid-week so despite the prices listed, our meals were £10 each.
The menu looked very good so I would definitely return to try something else. Note: like many businesses in Churchtown, La Tabella is closed on Mondays.
