We went to the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park using the hop-on hop-off tour bus. (Incidentally this is a good method for travelling around the main sights of KL and we would recommend it.) The ticket cost was 48 ringitt (about £9) which is quite expensive for Malaysia but it was a very large and comprehensive bird park. The walk through aviary is the world’s largest and certainly has a large number and variety of birds. There are also smaller areas with specific families of birds such as hornbills, parrots, lovebirds etc. The birds all seemed well cared for and, with such a large area to fly about in, happy and content. The whole area covers many acres and several acres, including a flamingo pool, appeared to be inside the aviary.
Inside the park are 3 restaurants/snack bars as well as a gift shop, photo booth etc. Machines are available which dispense food for certain varieties of birds – they are used to being hand fed and come right up to you – sometimes too close as I had my icecream stolen by a peacock! We did not time our visit correctly so cannot comment on the bird show which takes place twice a day.
We enjoyed our visit and would have liked to spend longer but we were packing rather a lot into one day. Definitely well worth a visit and makes a change from looking at buildings and shops in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
