I had the pleasure of visiting Krakow in February and was enchanted by the city and the people. A short 2 1/2 hour flight from the UK, Poland is easily accessible and the airport is 30 minutes outside of the city centre. We stayed in the Senacki hotel just 3 minutes walk from the main square. The hotel was excellent with spacious rooms and outstanding service. The city is a wonderful mix of architecture with the main square and Cloth Hall a must for any visitor. Horse and carriage rides are available around the city to see the sites of the castle and the Jewish quarter or for the more agile, walking around is equally enjoyable.
We visited Auschwitz which was a memorable excursion and deeply moving. With temperatures well below freezing the experience was very sobering and may not be on everyone’s list of activities.
The underground museum in the main square is a hidden gem with the history of Krakow beautifully portrayed through multi-media devices. Well worth a visit.
The Polish currency is the zloti and we found that our pound went a very long way and we enjoyed great value for money throughout our stay. I would highly recommend the city for a weekend (or longer) break and I would have no hesitation in returning.
