This is the deepest travel experience in Estonia! The underground museum is the most attractive and exciting sight at the Kohtla Mining Park, consisting of former mining gears with a total length of 1 kilometre. This was a guided tour. Our family and ten other people, mostly pensioners become miners as we put on helmets and miner lights durable miners' coats and descend to mining gears up to 8 m under the ground. We had a unique chance to walk in the footsteps of real miners, experience their daily work in moist and dusky conditions. We did not know before that excursion much about miners' everyday work. It helped us to understand the background and the development of oil shale mining and the functioning of the industry. During the underground tour we visited miners’ various underground work-places as well as the explosives storage, traveled on a real underground train for miners, and got the view of various underground technical equipment and mining technology. Many of the machinery are not used in new mines any more. In addition to that at the end of the excursionwe had a delicious miner’s lunch (soup, black and white bread, juice) in the underground miners' canteen. We did nor realize that miners' work was so hard.
