A lot of my enjoyment of Keukenhof centred around the colour – we were fortunate to visit on a day with a cloudless blue sky and bright sunshine and by the end of the day I was dizzy with my head spinning – in fact I dreamt bunches of tulips that night. It has all been said before in other reviews but I felt I had to add another little review as it was so spectacular. Even before you entered the gardens you passed the fields of tulips and in fact the rows of colour were best seen from the height of the coach.
Apart from the huge beds of colour there were containers of flowers everywhere and the perfume from the hyacinths was heady indeed. It was impossible not to take closeups of individual flowers but the result was a bit like a garden catalogue so I have tried to add a few more unusual spots. Because of the brightness of the day, the bare trees created their own artwork of shadows and the reviewer who said ‘don’t forget your camera’ wasn’t wrong. A fun idea that appealed to me were the pairs of jeans stuffed with plants – an idea I am putting to our gardening group as a competition. A short review but DO GO THERE if you get the chance. Words just don’t do it justice.
