We travelled to Tenterden by car and parked in the Tenterden Station car park. I had checked in advance the time of the trains – and to make sure that they were steam hauled. Having bought the tickets for the return journey to Bodiam Castle we went to the refreshment room for a good cup of coffee and snack before boarding the train. No first class section on the ones we chose so no supplements to pay.
A lovely sunny day for a train ride through the countryside to Bodiam.
At Bodiam we used the improved tea room to get a pleasant lunch before climbing up to the Castle. A shuttle service is available for anyone not up to the gentle climb. The tea room at the top of the ‘hill’ has some of the history of the site.
The return journey was as pleasant as the outbound.
Once arrived at Tenterden we transferred the car to a street parking place and went for an early dinner at Montalbano Restaurant – very good with some unusual options.
On another occasion we repeated this trip but travelled via Pashley Manor Gardens. If you have not been there (or not for some time) it is worth the journey. And you can get reduced entry if you are an Art Fund member (although this is not shown on the entry price board).
