Reasons for trip

Last visit was nearly a year ago, so it was time to go back. Grandson decided it would be a good birthday present for Grandma.

It was a cold February Sunday so the sight of the coal fires blazing in the ticket offices were a welcome sight.

There is a surprisingly good service on a Sunday with ten trips. Today the single car diesel rail car was running the early services with steam loco 43924 on the 11am service from Oxenhope.

The diesel rail car was very quiet as most people prefer the steam hauled train, which has a buffet service. Failing that, there is a stationary buffet car at Oxenhope selling very good cakes and the kiosk at Keighley sells hot drinks and some food.

One great advantage of the diesel rail car is the excellent visibility if you are lucky enough to get the seat at the front next to the driver – you could almost be driving the train. While waiting at Oxenhope, anoraking grandson was allowed to sit in the driver’s seat and sound the horn.

With an all day rover, we made several trips up and down the line with stops at Ingrow West to go in the museum and at Oakworth, the Railway Children station, so grandson could pretend to be Perks.

All in all, another good day out.

If you are intending to make several journeys in a year, it is worth considering “membership”:https://kwvr.co.uk/. This gives you three free trips with half price travel on further trips.
