Hidden amongst trees from the A303 road, is a wonderful coach house and stables called Jordans. There used to be a Georgian House as well but that has long since gone.

It is ideal for disabled as you can park right by the front door, and enter hall, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, dining room, kitchen and sitting room all on the ground floor. There is also an upstairs bedroom with bathroom. Jordans has excellent views over countryside at the front, and into your own secluded walled garden at the back.

The facilities are basic in some areas, with not so much furniture in some rooms, but a lovely dining room and the location makes it a great stay as you have the area all to yourselves.

There is a short walk over grass to a stunning Shell House with a thatched roof. It is listed and a lovely site which catches the evening sun, and the coloured glass throws red light into the interior of shells. The rhododendrons were out in full bloom when we visited.

You need to drive to Ilminster for any provisions or food, and there are plenty of National Trust to visit nearby such as Montacute or Barrington Court.

Worth visiting Dowlish Wake Church as well which is where the family owners of the Speke's are buried. The tomb of Speke of the Nile (found the source of the Nile) is in the Church and he used to live at Jordans.
