An hour’s drive north of the Amman to the Roman city of Jerash which has been described as the “Pompeii of the East” is impressive. Hadrian’s gate is well preserved and the oval forum and the city streets are a delight for the photographer. But it is very open and hot. Take lots of water. My knees gave out and with the heat I couldn’t walk the entire length of the city, a disappointment.
