Reasons for trip

We had been looking forward to eating at Jamie’s as we had heard so much about this new chain of restaurants but left feeling rather disappointed.

One of the main attractions of this restaurant is that it is situated in the old Assembly Rooms, a wonderful old building which makes a great setting for a meal. We had booked in advance for a table on the upper floor, as downstairs can be rather busy and noisy. The waiter who welcomed us tried to seat us downstairs and even when we pointed out that we had specifically asked for the upper floor was reluctant to comply. Eventually this was resolved to our satisfaction but not a good start to the evening.

I think the general feeling of the four of us was that the food was good, without being exceptional, and that the prices were on the high side and therefore not great value for money. The waitress who served us made up for the shortcomings of her colleague! However, we enjoyed the experience of eating there and would certainly try one of the other restaurants in the chain in the future.
