It is always a bit of a chance booking a 2-star hotel but this is one of the best 2 stars we have stayed at! The location is perfect, half-way along the Central Promenade in Llandudno, North Wales, one of the earliest seaside resorts in Britain. We didn’t have a sea-view room on the front, but our double room on first floor was fine with clean, comfy bed, modern shower room, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Free WiFi is available in the reception area, and there is a small bar serving until 10pm.
The biggest surprise was the breakfast room, down stairs from the ground floor so we were expecting dark and dingy. But no, it is light and airy, newly decorated with big shiny black and white floor tiles and proper dining-room chairs. Full breakfast is included with self-service juice, toast and cereals then waitress service for the cooked breakfast, tea and coffee. A big plus is that there are plenty of staff members serving and it was extremely fast service of hot food. Only mini-moan is that there is no fruit or cheese/meat if you prefer a continental breakfast.
The small annex at the rear means you can access the dining room and therefore the lift quite easily. It is fair to say that Llandudno is known as the place to be if you are retired as the hotels take great care to cater for everyone, and the wide promenade is flat leading to the Pier which is also accessible. There is a great programme of events at the theatre throughout the year with some well-known celebrities featured (also look at the review of Llandudno itself).
So, the Iris Hotel is in a great position, few minutes’ walk from the rail station, the main shopping centres and lots of restaurants or bars. At £177 for three nights bed and breakfast for two people, (booked through booking.com) it is exceptional value and we will definitely stay here again.
