Reasons for trip

My husband’s life was saved in 2018 by a wonderful surgeon in the University Hospital in Innsbruck, following the development of a life threatening condition on the ski slopes above St Anton. He was helicoptered to the hospital. I flew out and stayed 2 weeks while he recovered in Intensive Care. I barely saw anything except the hospital and the very centre of Innsbruck. So the next summer we flew back to thank the surgeon, take him gifts and enjoy Innsbruck. We stayed in the Sport Hotel, in the lovely village of Igls, with a very frequent bus service into the city. The Sport hotel had excellent food, gave us packed lunches and free bus tickets into Innsbruck, about 10 minutes away. It also had a good swimming pool, indoors, which opened out into the lovely sunny garden with sun beds on the lawn. There were some lovely walks around it., with the possibility of hiring electric bikes to explore further. Innsbruck itself is a wonderful city for a summer holiday, great culture, a fascinating city Zoo at the food of one of the mountain cable cars, 2 close mountains to visit, with an alpine botanic garden at the summit of one of them. There are frequent bus and cable car services to the mountains. The museums are very interesting and varied, e.g. the Schloss Ambras castle museum, with golden clocks and many other wonderful artefacts in the Chamber of Art and Wonders, one part of the museum. The Museum was built by Archduke Ferdinand II, in the 1500s. They are also some wonderful churches. There is an Innsbruck card which gives free or reduced access to most of these. There is a lovely cafe culture, with open air sections in the Main Street and the food is excellent with a number of varied choices of menu and cost, the pastries are delicious.

The other great point is that Innsbruck airport is very close to the city, so the transit time is very short. The bus services around and in Innsbruck are frequent and cheap.
If it had not been for my husband’s illness, from which he has made an excellent recovery, we would never have thought to take a summer holiday in Innsbruck. In the event we had one of the very best holidays we have ever had. Go and have a wonderful time.
