This small estate of some 7 or 8 properties consists of renovated single and double storey farm buildings with a livery stable next door. What sets it apart is the location, just a mile away from the famous Snape Maltings of Benjamin Britten fame, but more importantly its gardens running down to the idyllic waters of the Alde estuary. The more expensive and larger buildings with apartments on ground and first floors actually front onto the gardens, with the single storey ones which we stayed in as a group of 3 having easy access to the shore. We walked our dog each day to Snape Maltings to the north west or to Iken Church eastwards.
As we knew by day two that we would be returning, Emma who runs the operation with her father and is on hand most all the time, showed us two of the larger properties which didn't disappoint. Each apartment has been thoughtfully renovated and furnished, and contains most everything a normal family would wish.
The property is particularly handy for the honeypot town of Aldeburgh, but there is much to like about the surrounding heathland areas too, all in an area of outstanding antural beauty. Iken Barns has its own web site, though we booked through Suffolk secrets. Thoroughly recommend!
