We wanted to visit Portmeirion village but didn’t want to do the journey there and back all in one day so were looking for accommodation nearby for an overnight stay. (The accommodation in the village itself looks lovely but is quite expensive.) We discovered that there is a newly opened Premier Inn in Porthmadog which is just a ten minute drive away and right opposite the station for the Ffestiniog railway! The prices were quite reasonable, with a choice of standard and superior rooms, and there is an on-site restaurant where we had a perfectly nice breakfast and evening meal. Our room overlooked the station and the bay and it was lovely to watch the trains come and go. The station also has a bar and restaurant attached. Porthmadog has a very picturesque harbour just a short walk from the hotel and a bustling high street. We very much enjoyed our visit to Portmeirion and would highly recommend it, especially to anybody who remembers the old series The Prisoner many years ago, and are hoping to go back for a special occasion and stay in one of the village hotels, but can definitely recommend the Premier Inn Porthmadog as an alternative.
