As we were staying in Malaga for 14 nights, and wanted to combine sightseeing with relaxing, Silver Travel suggested the four-star Salles Malaga Centro as it was centrally located and had a roof top pool.
Check in at 3pm was straightforward and whilst we didn’t need to use reception much, the friendly and helpful staff spoke excellent English.
Having booked a standard room, we were delighted with our triple, with a double bed and two singles pushed together. It was a good size with desk and chair, easy chair and room to open one suitcase. The bedside tables had plug points and adjustable reading lights. The wall mounted TV was in a good position for watching from bed, although we never did, and there was a mini bar which we never used. Water was not provided, but a small corner shop over the road sold a variety of drinks and snacks. The wardrobe contained the tea and coffee making facilities and room safe, and there were plenty of hangers and shelving. The predominantly black and white décor had splashes of red, and the floor was practical laminate. The AC was quiet, effective and simple to use. Whilst there was a small balcony, it wasn’t big enough for sitting out on.
The bathroom was a good size with a single basin, but plenty of space for toiletries, and there was a decent hairdryer and mirror combination, good shaving mirror and plenty of light. Whilst there was a corner shower, the cubicle was so tiny, we used the second shower which was over the bath. The water was powerful but tended to flood the floor although there was a shower screen. Refillable, environmentally friendly toiletries were provided.
We used the small roof top sunbathing area on a couple of occasions but with only 18 beds, it was best to get there early when it opened at 10am. I found the pool too chilly for dipping. The biggest issue was the music which ramped up at 11am when most people were either reading or listening to music on their own devices. It was turned down on request, but not off.
The café bar attached to the pool, was ideal for drinks and snacks during the day and we enjoyed two beautifully presented light lunches. We also had dinner one evening when on arriving at 8pm, we found it busy with people having pre-dinner drinks and enjoying the views of Malaga.
We chose a room only package but could have taken breakfast for €15 each. However, there were plenty of surrounding cafes which we used for coffee and a savoury.
The ground floor restaurant and coffee bar both appeared totally underused, probably reflecting the central location and choice of surrounding options.
All in all, it was an excellent choice, and we would certainly recommend the hotel.
