My perspective on the Icefields, totally different to everyone else – I found it very sad, I was here some 35 years ago, we did go out onto the ice, but in a small snowmobile – it was pristine then – not now, its dirty, crowded and sad. Personally I think it’s time they stopped these great machines trundling out there, making the natural recession much worse. But it’s a money spinner – I don’t know how much the ice has receded since we were here all those years back – but at a guess its best part of a mile. I remember standing under the ice near to the roadway having my picture taken before venturing onto the ice. We didn’t have to negotiate a very steep incline, a drive of some 20 mimutes to get onto the ice, we bought a ticket in a little hut and off we went with a driver of course & I found it amazing then. Of course it’s still incredible but it’s changed so much.
