I received a 'random' email offering a break for £50 at a Club La Costa resort. They said I would receive a £50 voucher to spend in the health spa, a free meal during our stay, and glass of champagne on arrival. In exchange for this we had to agree to attend a compulsory 90 minute presentation.
We thought it was probably too good to be true, and we would be hassled and pushed into buying a 'time share' but decided to give it a go and went to Hustyns at Wadebridge in Cornwall.
WOW! were we wrong! The site and accommodation are beautiful. A haven of peace and quiet. The gardens are beautifully kept and there are lots of places to relax enjoy the serenity, listen to the birds and take in the fresh air.
We were allocated a suite in the main building. There was a king size bed, huge en-suite bathroom, balcony with patio furniture, colour tv etc. House-keeping came in each day and cleaned through leaving the room in immaculate condition.
The evening entertainment was a jazz duo – okay to sit and listen to whilst having a drink.
Food from the restaurant was the best I've ever had. 100% fabulous. I understand that a lot of the produce is local with much being grown on site.
Our 'appointed presentation time' was during the afternoon of the 3rd day. The sales rep came and collected us from our suite and took us for a meal where he explained what would happen during the presentation.
The 90 minute presentation was as boring as heck as we knew from the outset that there was no way we were going to buy into the time-share scheme. We listened politelty – felt sorry for the rep and hoped that he wasn't on 'commission only' as he wouldn't earn any from us!
When it came to giving us the price, another rep was brought in and we had to sit opposite 2 reps. It felt awful saying 'No, we weren't interested' but when we did, they took it surprisingly well and shook our hands and thanked us for coming. They actually said "enjoy the rest of your holiday!" They did as they said they would ….. gave us the figures, details etc and let us make our own decision – no hard sell involved at all!!
We went back to our beautiful suite and sat on the balcony enjoying the views and peace and quiet…… but feeling ever so slightly guilty!!
All of the staff that we came into contact with at the resort were 100% professional – so well trained.
If you're ever offered a £50 Club La Costa holiday, grab it with both hands. Having to sit through a 90 minute presentation is a small price to pay!
If the sales rep ever gets to see this review …. "sorry!" your presentation was very very good, it wasn't your fault we didn't buy, we just wanted a cheap break away.
