Although we had accommodation booked for six out of the seven nights on our tour of Tuscany we had left one night “free”as we wanted to be able to make “spur of moment” decision in the event somewhere took our fancy!
We discovered this hotel by accident after we had parked the car before setting off to go sightseeing in Siena. It was in a good position surrounded by plenty of parking spaces (depending on time of day) within a 10-15 min walk to the centre of Siena & the Duomo. After a nice welcome we were shown two rooms – both very clean & nicely furnished – but opted for the one with a balcony that overlooked a main road but we had no problems with noise and slept well. The bathroom was very small but good use had been made of all available space & the shower was excellent! Fittings looked relatively new and toiletries provided. Also towels were large and fluffy which was a real positive (hate the t- towel sized ones that some hotels have!). No tea/coffee making facilities in room but we “made do” with a glass of wine on our balcony instead!! (In the evening I hasten to add …not at breakfast!).
Plug sockets positioned by mirror and dressing table which sadly many hotels still don’t seem to get right!! Bed very comfortable and room décor clean and fresh looking. Had the impression it might have been recently redecorated etc..
Breakfast was served in a light airy room again very clean and appeared newly decorated. Buffet style but with plenty of choice-cereal, yoghurt, bread & cheese – the pastries were delicious – also a few wheat free biscuits etc.. Freshly squeezed orange juice and a choice of fresh coffee served via a friendly waitress. Selection of tea bags offered along with pot of hot water.
Costing 133 euros per night for B&B we thought this was great value for money especially as it was quite close to the centre. Perfect for a one night stop although we would have happily stayed longer. Reception staff were helpful and friendly with sightseeing queries etc.
Tip: as you walk towards the centre at end of the road there is a café from which there is a good view (& photo opportunity) of the Duomo and another church & tower.
