High above Lake Lucerne you will find the newly renovated Villa Honegg which first started welcoming visitors in 1905. It should be noted that the hotel was refurbished after a period of closure and reopened under new ownership in 2011. With only 23 rooms it is a delightful retreat but offers everything you need to relax and feel pampered. Our lake view room was small but beautifully appointed with a tiny balcony offering staggering views over the mountains and Lake Lucerne. Our large bed was superbly comfortable and was dressed with top of the range linens and the softest and biggest down pillows we have ever experienced. Our room offered a N' espresso machine and a small fridge which offered soft drinks inclusive in the room rate. The small shower room was fully functional but lacked storage facilities although the towels were like velvet and the shower was excellent. Our room and shower room were serviced to a high standard twice a day. There was ample storage and excellent lighting in the bedroom and it was beautifully quiet so we slept very well.
Breakfast served on the terrace was somewhat haphazard and disappointing but I am sure the hotel will work hard to improve this very important part of the guest experience. The hotel prides itself on sourcing excellent food very locally but service and presentation need improving. The terrace though was just wonderful as it offered spellbinding views of the lake and mountains. We were lucky to see the mountain tops lit by the sinking sun, just magnificent. The outside infinity pool is mesmerising but rather too hot for us at 34 C. Fine in the winter but not for us in the heatwave we visited in. it certainly has the wow factor, offering those fantastic views, a unique vantage point. The indoor pool was delightful and heated to 24 C, perfect for us! The hotel offers complimentary E bikes and golf carts and we took good advantage of the latter. We had great fun trundling round the mountain trails in the beautiful sunshine.
Dinner was mostly very good indeed and it was just a joy to sit and enjoy a lovely meal and watch the ever changing light at sunset. We very much enjoyed the local Swiss wines.
Public rooms are very chic and comfortable and the rate charged includes underground garage parking. The hotel is a delightful place to spend the day and enjoy the peace and tranquillity it offers but there are many attractions close by. Lucerne is just 30 minutes by road and our drive from Zurich airport took about an hour. We spent a wonderful afternoon ascending a mountain by cable car and 2 chair lifts "Fronalpstock" accessed easily from the small town of Stoos. If you are canny you can buy a day pass which, with your Lucerne Pass will be discounted by 40%. The Lucerne pass will be waiting for you at the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout although there were some language barriers but my husband's German coped with most situations. Room rates are high but if you are reading this I am sure you deserve a treat!
