We booked this holiday very last minute with Monarch, flying out to Malaga and staying at the Triton in Benalmadena half board. Our outboud flight was delayed almost three hours meaning that we missed dinner on the first night and disappointingly a snack wasn't offered by the hotel (quite unusual in our experience). The room was huge! Two double beds, a large marble fitted bathroom, plenty of wardrobe space and a mini bar with four free drinks – two mineral waters, a coke and a fanta (nice touch). We were on the third floor and took the stairs most of the time as the lifts seemed to be causing some problems. Breakfast was generally good – continental better than cooked. Drinks were an issue as coffee was dreadful and water not hot enought to make a decent cuppa. Orange juice was terrible too. Location of the hotel is excellent – right on the front and perfect for strolling along to Torremolinos or a visit to Paloma Park. The pools looked beautiful but as it was November we didn't partake. Dinner was much better than anticipated – good fish soups, chorizo selection, salads etc. Great fish dishes on the show cooking. Lovely cheese selection including a perfectly rip Brie and a smelly Stilton for the hubby. We ate out during the day at chiringuitos enjoying fresh sardines, boquerones, tortilla etc and spent most of the time sitting reading in a sunny spot. It was a cool 14 degrees but very sunny so perfectly acceptable. At night we had a cocktail in the hotel before dinner, but the evening entertainment was geared to the 70 plus market and as we're in our fifties we headed to the Plaza Ole to the little bars which were friendly and fun. Overall for a cheap and cheerful break this was great value.
