Personal / family celebration

After an early morning flight to Dubrovnik we were not particularly looking forward to a 2 hour transfer to Becici but the lush green landscapes with mountains backdrop were beautiful and after a short ferry ride at Kotor we were soon at our hotel. Hotel Tara gives the impression of a fairly new hotel although it was built in the 70’s. It has a modern style and very good amenities. Our bedroom had side views towards the mountains, was spacious with a most comfortable bed, a large bowl of fruit, good hospitality tray and fridge. The bathroom was recently refurbished with a great shower and a tray full of toiletries, replenished often as were our towels. It was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. It seemed everywhere you went there were cleaners around! The restaurant was quite large and sectioned into different areas. There was always a good selection at the buffet with a speciality main cooked freshly each evening, lots of salads and fresh fruit. The desserts were quite repetitive but we always enjoyed the icecream. There were self service fruit drinks, water and a choice of red or white wine in the barrels. The hotel was full and it was very busy, most noticeably in the mornings, when queues gathered for the freshly made omelettes and at the coffee/tea machines. This was not problematic as they had plenty of waiting staff to help out.

This was a Saga holiday so we had our own comfortable lounge and small outside terrace where drinks at the bar were served all day. Also, afternoon tea and biscuits. I celebrated my birthday here and to my surprise the hotel made me a scrumptious chocolate cake so this went down well at teatime. Quite a few activities going on and some evenings we had music and dancing. Also the included excursions were most enjoyable, particularly the drives to the pretty old town of Budva , a short distance away and Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its beautiful old medieval town alongside its fjord. Lots of excursions available, the most popular being the Montenegro panoramic, driving along the coast and through the mountains inland, and to Albania which is at the foot of the country.

Spent quite a lot of time in the pleasant outside pool area which had a sun deck bar. Enough sunloungers to go round as the private beach area located some 5 minutes from the hotel was very popular too. Becici is a man made resort with hotels along the promenade. There is a pleasant sea view walk behind the hotels to Budva. Local bus services run on the main road just a few minutes walk from the hotel but the taxis are very reasonable, about 4 euros into Budva.

Our Saga representative, Janina, was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Must also praise all the hotel staff who were so friendly and helpful. This is our second Saga holiday and is one of our best experiences.
