We took a winter break to the Costa Del Sol last month, staying at the Roc Lago Rojo in the Carihuela district of Torremolinos. The hotel is ideally placed for the seafront, shops and restaurants and we spent many happy hours promenading. The accommodation was billed as 'junior suite' which was slightly over egging the pudding – the room did have a living area, but the fittings were spartan and bed was a twin, not a double. Bathroom great though and plenty of hot water. This is a budget hotel so our expectations were realistic. However, the food really wasn't up to scratch. We were half board and dinner was passable if you stuck to fish or chicken with salad, but sadly most other cooked dishes were inedible and not hot enough. Breakfast for me was fine as I enjoy sweet pastries with nutella and some fruit, but my husband was looking for a traditional fry up and was disappointed. By day three of eight we ate out for breakfast. The bread was always great as were the cakes and pastries day or night. The bar area was pretty good and entertainment not bad (too cold at night to venture too far). Service was good overall and the standard of cleanliness excellent. There was a charge for wifi which was a shame but many bars and cafes in town offer free Wi-Fi. Would I stay here again? No, I don't think so. It does have location in its favour, but nothing else to tempt me back.
