Just wanted to tell people what a lovely place Mahon on Menorca is, especially in October when it is much quieter. There are very pretty streets to explore, a super market twice weekly, a bus station covering the whole island and a little train that takes you all round the city. We stayed at the Port Mahon Hotel which about a kilometre from the centre but any easy walk or bus transfer. There are plenty of nice restaurants nearby down on the harbour front but we ate in the hotel most days as the food was of a very high standard. Being a small hotel we got to know many people and it was very pleasant sitting on the terrace in the evening sipping a sangria and watching the world go by. There was usually music and good company. It was exciting watching cruise ships sail into Mahon through the narrow harbour which in itself is very historical all from our lovely balcony. We had superb weather and managed to see most of the island by bus and had one excursion which included the stud farm where the lovely show horses live. It is a lovely destination for people who do not want to travel too far and it's about a two hour flight from UK and easy transfer from airport. Hope you read this and enjoy it as much as we did, people at the hotel were nearly all return bookers for many years!
