Fabulous views from Park Hotel over Lake Bled to the castle on the craggy outcrop. Room 428 is not overlooked and also has side views down the lake towards The Church of The Assumption on the island with 99 steps which newly weds climb to ring a bell and make a wish!

There are lots of ‘tame’ sparrows which come to the balcony, and every balcony along my floor had the ashtray put out with food for them (The Mercator supermarket just over the road sells bird seed, as well as a great bread and deli range for lunchtime picnics!)

The hotel has really comfortable beds and air conditioning which, thankfully, is silent and efficient, guaranteeing a wonderful night’s sleep. Bathroom is clean with lots of hot water. The room was serviced whilst I was at breakfast, which was wonderful. The only downside is the toiletries. I think they must have purchased a job lot very cheaply in the 1970’s! Not good for a 4 star hotel – tip – take your own

Foodwise; both breakfast and dinner offer a superb selection of dishes, both hot and cold, which are good quality, well presented, hot and replenished very regularly. Could not fault the meals or the service and the coffee is very good too! In the afternoon complimentary tea and coffee are put out and the little cakes which are also on offer are just delicious and just hit the mark after a stroll round Lake Bled

In fact all the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful,. The hotel offers a programme of entertainment, such as a torchlight walk round the area. I went on Friday to Vintnar Gorge with ‘Rock from Reception’ He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and pitched the walk at my pace, which was much appreciated! The trip cost just 10 Euro and included the bus fare and entrance to the incredible gorge which is mainly a level walk approx one mile to the waterfall and back

One MUST DO is President Tito’s Tea Terrace, in the Belvedre Kavina just passed Villa Bled Hotel as you walk round the lake, It’s a 3 minutes walk up wooden steps through birdsong filled forest to the room Built on columns, it juts out from the cliff and overlooks the Church of The Assumption in the lake. It has only opened this month, July 2015, having been closed for 40 years. for 2.5 Euro it is the most elegant cup of perfectly brewed coffee accompanied by stunning views towards the castle, sitting in original chairs in an exquisite wood paneled room where heads of state were once entertained.

Outside is a very small terrace where you can sit and soak in the lake and mountain view. On the floor on the terrace outside are the most intricate mosaics of flowers and animals such as a lion, polar bear etc. It was quite an experience and highly recommended – Tea at Tito’s!
