We chose the four star “Hotel Liabeny”:http://www.liabeny.es/en/ for its excellent location – a five minute walk to Metro Sol and ten to Plaza Mayor.
This is a large hotel and our room (518) was bigger than expected room with lots of lights (including a very good reading light next to the chair and good double bedside lights). It was a ‘bit beige’ but because the walls were cream, it was ok. The bathroom is in need of updating. The shower over the bath had a brown, old-fashioned, mirrored, sliding screen shower, but on the plus side, it was big with lots of room for toiletries and had a good hairdryer. The TV had good reception of BBC World, there was a well stocked mini bar and s safe in an accessible spot. There as some building work opposite and although we overlooked it, it wasn’t too noisy. There was no tea or coffee making facilities but a large double bed with extra pillows was very comfortable. The air conditioning was efficient and easily regulated. The hotel provides room service and there are two sets of large, efficient lifts and good free WiFi in the room. The staff on reception speak good English and the concierge is helpful with tourist information.
We were on room only and found plenty of places for a light breakfast nearby. There are half a dozen pavement tables and chairs outside and also a cafe bar which opens all day. We used this for drinks before and after dinner and a light lunch before we left.
It is a €30 flat fare to the airport although we travelled from the train station to the hotel by metro for €1.50 each but this did involve quite a lot of steps.
