Jaén is Spain´s largest olive producer so the scenery, rolling olive groves as far as the eye can see, comes as no surprise.
Hotel Hacienda La Laguna was once the estate house and producer of olive oil. A testimony seen all around. The access road is through olive groves and the hotel itself a low building with internal open courtyards in true Andalusian style.
Our hotel bedroom, each named after a variety of olive, was around one of these courtyards. A very pleasant good sized room but with no view. The hotel has two restaurants of excellent standard manned by the onsite cookery school.
There is also a fascinating olive oil museum showing the methods and machinery of turning olives into oil in bygone days. Also nearby is La Laguna Grande about 1.5km walk from the hotel and 2km around the lake.
For an isolated hotel there´s plenty to do onsite with a spa too. The lovely UNESCO Renaissance towns of Ubeda and Baeza are nearby and 30 mins away the provincial capital of Jaen.
