We stayed at this hotel, in downtown San Jose, at the beginning and end of an Intrepid, coast-to-coast tour of Costa Rica. It is a good, central location, but the praise stops there. Allegedly three-star, the hotel is shabby and in need of renovation. The swimming pool was unusable, not least due to the building materials around it. And staff need to brush up on their people skills; surly and uninterested summed up most of those we encountered. Access to the rooms is by stairs, or a single lift, which had been out of action for at least a fortnight by the time we arrived, and had not been repaired by the time we returned two weeks later. No assistance was offered in taking up our cases, despite the fact that I am disabled.
