We had tickets to see Holst's 'The Planets' and stayed in this former eye hospital for two wonderful nights.
Each room is different and we had a large room with a huge, supremely comfortable double bed and an en-suite with both a roll top bath and a fantastic monsoon shower.
All of the staff were very friendly, cheerful and extremely helpful. I asked for some more tea bags on my way back from the Spa and they were in my room before I got back! The room had the usual mini bar but included real milk (free) for the tea and coffee!
Dinner was excellent both in taste, appearance, portion size and value. We shared a Crème Brulee – it was 'to die for!' The best we have ever tasted and we are Crème Brulee aficionados!! Breakfast consisted of a help yourself buffet table laden with fresh fruit, croissants and pastries together with freshly squeezed juices and an array of different cereals. This was followed by a choice of cooked dishes including an amazing Healthy Vegetarian Breakfast of carrot and ginger sausages, a white egg spinach omelette, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms which was absolutely delicious.
We also used the Spa facilities in the basement (no pool unfortunately) including the Sauna and Steam Room. After my facial I felt wonderful and I left clutching a handful of free samples. The Relaxation room was exceptionally restful with it's tranquil music, comfortable loungers and up to date glossies. One of the therapists brought me a tea tray of freshly made tea and biscuits. I felt like a real celeb!
The only niggle was that our room looked out on a disused hotel which was being renovated (but we were in the middle of the City!) and the old lift was a small, a little slow and temperamental!
We would certainly stay here again and have recommended it to our family and friends. Wonderful hotel and fantastic staff – excellent!
