The hotel is in a good location on Bolivar and in walking distance of the centre of Potosi . It is a modern building with a large and stylish reception area which is open to the top of the building. There was a small computer centre off reception and my heart sank when I saw the Karaoke. We stopped Thursday and Friday nights. If there was a disco we didn’t hear it and it certainly didn’t keep us awake.
Reception had little English although were pleasant and always ready to help. It’s amazing what can be achieved by a smile, hand gestures and the phrase book.
We had a large room on the third floor which overlooked a side street with a sports/play area. This could be noisy during the day and early evening when the kids were out.
It was a pleasant room – plenty of space with 2 large beds, small table to work on, dressing table, 3 bedside tables, large hanging area, TV, Fridge…. In fact it was a typical hotel room and we could have been anywhere in the world. There was a nice bathroom off with plenty of towels which were changed daily and also if we asked during the day.
The dining room was large and always seemed to be deserted. Breakfasts were self service buffets and there was plenty of choice.
We had two evening meals in the dining room. Service was very slow and there was only one woman on duty and it could be a while before she realised there were people wanting to eat. She had no English. We have little Spanish so the smile and pointing technique came in handy. The menu and prices were reasonable. Soups were huge and filling – almost a meal in themselves. The Bolivians eat little vegetables and there were blank looks when we asked for cauliflower… broccoli, cabbage but a delighted smile and nod when we asked for green beans.
